IT Strategic Sourcing Wins Team Innovation Award

Thomas Trappler displays Epic Award

The University of California IT Strategic Sourcing has won the 2018 EPIC (Excellence in Purchasing Indirect Category) Award for Team Innovation.

Presented at the ProcureCon Indirect East Conference held Feb. 20-22 in Florida, the EPIC Awards recognize and celebrate innovative, dynamic and accomplished procurement leaders across all industries nationwide. The Team Innovation Award recognizes team efforts in achieving outstanding indirect sourcing results.

With collaboration across complex purchasing environments, the IT Strategic Sourcing team and additional stakeholders incorporated a new procurement process building in accountability and documentable measures to reduce cost and risk to UC. Benefits resulting from the improvements have translated to more than $24 million in savings.

The award for UC IT Strategic Sourcing is a testament not only to the efforts and results of the UC Procurement Services’ Information Technology Center of Excellence (IT COE) team, but to the partners, key stakeholders, subject matter experts and business process owners of both systemwide and campus IT and procurement departments. It was the strong, collaborative partnerships combined with the reduction of cost and risk of acquiring IT goods and services in UC’s large, highly complex and distributed environment that impressed the judges and sponsors.
